Unicorns and Rainbows and Quickly Exploring New Aesthetics
admin
As an artist in the era of AI, I find myself exploring realms of art aesthetics that are unfamiliar yet fascinating.
Growing up in the era of Lisa Frank’s vibrant designs, although I did love my Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper, it didn’t exactly spark a creative yearning in me. Not because it wasn’t imaginative. Not because I didn’t identify with unicorns…. But likely because even at that young age I was more drawn to my father’s darker, more moody and cinematic art of my father than I was to anything popular.
That said, it’s always exciting to depart from ones norm, and in this AI study I decided to lean into my love of blending humans an animals again to see what fantastical creations the AI could conjure.
In this example, I got a quick tour in the colorful, whimsical side of art and embarked on an AI-assisted journey to blend humans and animals, an approach reminiscent of Lisa Frank’s fantasy world, but with my own twist.
The results were an array of unique, fantastical creations, diverging significantly from the Lisa Frank aesthetic. But mostly I loved the imperfect alghoyhythmic struggle of the early AI with faces – too many eyes or noses, strange proportions. As an artist this creative interpretation means breaking the norms of physics. For AI, it’ comes naturally.
These AI-generated images were not just reinterpretations but innovative mistakes that brought a new level of creativity and imagination to the fore.
It was a departure from my norm, a foray into a style that I had never fully embraced, yet found intriguing.
This exercise underscored the potential of AI in artistic exploration. It’s not just about mastering unfamiliar styles; it’s about the unexpected journeys and surprising outcomes that AI can facilitate. From the vibrant hues of a bygone childhood era to the nuanced fusion of human and animal forms, AI proved to be a tool of limitless potential, allowing me to explore and appreciate artistic realms that were once outside my comfort zone.
